The carpal tunnel is a narrow passageway surrounded by bones and ligaments on the palm side of your hand. Frequent keyboard users often find this passageway becomes narrower, and the median nerve passes through it is pressed by surrounding tissues. When the median nerve is compressed, the symptoms can include numbness, tingling and weakness in the hand and arm. This is the so called carpal tunnel syndrome.
Two main factors make the carpal tunnel passageway narrower. One is bending of the wrist when typing. Some people need to bend their writs and raise their hands to let fingers stay above the keys that are above the surface.
Bending the wrist applies pressure on the carpal tunnel and make it narrower. This narrowing makes circulation slower, and the molecules passing through the tunnel are easier to form bonds with the surrounding tissues and stay there. This will make the carpal tunnel narrower gradually.
Another factor is too many forceful key hits. To perform each key stroke, the hand and finger will do work, and generate some metabolic waste. This metabolic waste, such as Lactic Acid, are then transported through the carpal tunnel to liver for further processing.
The more work done during each heart beat, the more waste is produced. When the waste generated is more than the circulation can carry through the carpal tunnel in time, it will clog up the carpal tunnel, form bonds with the surrounding tissues and stay there. This will also make the carpal tunnel narrower even further.
This touchless keyboard is designed to addresses these two root causes effectively.
It is designed so that the key panel is sunk below the surroundings, and the whole thing is very thin. When the user uses the keyboard, the fingers extend downward, and the wrists are in a smooth position wthout bending. This sinking panel design reduces the pressure on wrists significantly.
Second, it is touchless. No resistive force from push-buttons to make the fingers do work. This feature reduces the generation of metabolic waste dramatically, and the clogging up senario of the carpal tunnel is very unlikely to happen again.
Users of touchless keyboards usually experience instant ease on their wrists during typing, and some symptoms do not affect as much. This also helps with the efficacy of medication.
